Transition Fraser Coast is is all about preparing the Fraser Coast for the future taking into consideration climate change and peak oil. Transition Towns are popping up all over the world and we are amongst the first in Australia. Transition Sunshine Coast is another transition initiative close by.
As there are very many groups and individuals in the Fraser Coast already working towards a more sustainable future, part of our role will be to act as a communication hub focusing everyone’s efforts. The intention is to have links on our site to the groups in the Fraser Coast that are participating and a schedule of their activities and events that they have planned.
Another part of our role will be to make information available to people on what can be done to address the serious issues of peak oil and climate change. So many people are unaware that food prices and food supply chains are very dependant on the price of oil.
Transition Initiatives are based on four key assumptions:
- That life with dramatically lower energy consumption is inevitable, and that it’s better to plan for it than to be taken by surprise.
- That our settlements and communities presently lack the resilience to enable them to weather the severe energy shocks that will accompany peak oil.
- That we have to act collectively, and we have to act now.
- That by unleashing the collective genius of those around us to creatively and proactively design our energy descent, we can build ways of living that are more connected, more enriching and that recognise the biological limits of our planet.
